DJI released a new firmware update for their Mavic 3 drone model—this one is a pretty big deal, as it seems like users will finally be able to use all of the amazing features of the Mavic 3 in its entirety.

Let’s take a closer look and some of the more interesting updates.

For better user experience, DJI has updated Explore Mode, Wide-Angle Lens, APAS, and an exclusive update for the Mavic 3 Cine:
  • Explore Mode:
Previously, this mode was outside of the main shooting modes menu, which meant a lot of users were having difficulty finding it and thought the Mavic’s 28X zoom capabilities were gone; however, with the update, Explore Mode is now found inside the menu along with other shooting modes like video, photos, etc.

  • Wide-Angle Lens:
Users are now able to use FocusTrack, QuickShots, (not including Asteroid), MasterShots, and Hyperlapse feature when this accessory is mounted to the drone.

  • APAS 5.0:
The new Nifty feature is ideal for users who want to capture dynamic footage; it allows you to bypass closer to the obstacles with a smooth trajectory. Keep in mind that there is an increased risk of crashing while using this feature—we recommend that only experienced pilots use it.

  • Aircraft:
    • Overall, the Mavic 3 has been optimized so the drone has greater stability when shooting a hyperlapse.

The Mavic 3 isn’t the only item to receive updates—the DJI RC Pro also got added custom functions for its buttons and dials. The Mavic 3 Cine model now supports ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 LT formats when using the Hasselblad camera and one-second interval time settings when creating hyperlapses.

For photo and video enthusiasts, DJI released updates to the Telephoto Camera and Hasselblad Camera that will improve several functions. Below is a complete breakdown of the updated features:
  • Telephoto Camera:

    • Supports the following shooting modes: Single shot, AEB mode, burst, and timed shots. Keep in mind that AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing) is a form of burst shooting; the difference between AEB and traditional burst shooting is that the camera will take multiple shots of the same scene with varying exposure values to create images with higher dynamic range.

    • The Tele Camera shoots in JPEG, RAW, JPEG+RAW photo formats and now supports PRO Mode or manual mode.  With Pro Mode, users can only adjust the ISO and shutter speed while the aperture is fixed at f4.4.

    • Videos in 4K @ 25/30/50fps, 1080p @ 25/30/50fps are now supported and users can film in both PRO Mode and manual mode.

    • Focus performance has also been optimized for filming videos with the Tele Camera.

  • Hasselblad Camera:

    • HLG color profile was added for greater quality while filming; users should note that HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma) is a form of HDR video that retains more information in the highlights and shadows. This allows editors to get the most out of the footage in their color correction process compared to a standard video color profile.

    • HLG and D-Log color profiles can be used when shooting MasterShots and QuickShots
    • The recent update allows the Hasselblad camera to support slow-motion video recordings of 1080p @ 200fps.

    • Finally, the camera supports up to 3X digital zoom in normal video mode, compared to the 2X zoom from before.

These updates allow users to unleash the potential of their Mavic 3 drones, justifying the initial hefty price tag. Those who waited to buy their Mavic 3 can enjoy a discount from the latest permanent price drop.
