A few years have passed since DJI first introduced the Mavic Series drones. In record time, Mavic Series drones have evolved into a well-established name in the drone industry. Yet, a new era of consumer and prosumer drones is finally here with the arrival of the DJI Mavic 3 & Mavic 3 Cine. As you probably know, a lot has been said about the Mavic 3 by drone enthusiasts around the globe. Making the Mavic 3 one of the most anticipated drones of the year. With that in mind, here are all the “ins and outs” of the new DJI Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine drones.
What’s in the Box of the DJI Mavic 3?
When it comes to “what’s in the box” of the Mavic 3, the first thing we’d like you to know is that the drone comes in three different presentations. Therefore, its contents will vary depending on the version of the Mavic 3 you purchase.

What are the Major Mavic 3 Upgrades?
The DJI Mavic 3 is DJI’s latest flagship consumer drone. In comparison with the DJI Mavic 2, the Mavic 3 comes filled with major upgrades! Here are some of the most important:
DJI Mavic 3 Dual-Camera System:
For starters, the Mavic 3 has a substantially upgraded camera performance with its dual camera. The dual-camera system is integrated by a 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad camera and a lightweight 24mm equivalent tele camera. This allows the Mavic 3 to capture footage at resolutions of up to 5.1K at 50fps and 4K at 120fps. While the Mavic 3 Cine supports Apple ProRes 422 HQ encoding, offering higher image quality and greater flexibility during post-processing.
Improved Flight Experience:
The DJI Mavic 3 gives users a notorious upgraded flight experience. This is thanks to the improved flight time of 46 minutes, and the new O3+ that extends video transmission to a maximum distance of 15 km (about 9 miles). Plus, its obstacle sensing feature has been developed into a truly omnidirectional system. This provides a more powerful APAS 5.0 and Advanced RTH (return to home), which yields greater peace of mind during the flight for the users.
Mavic 3 Gimbal Upgrade:
The Mavic 3’s gimbal has a built-in gimbal lock which keeps its 3-axis mechanical gimbal and camera from shaking and moving around. This gimbal lock adds an extra layer of safety when you transport and store the Mavic 3.
New Propeller Design:
The edges of the Mavic 3 propellers are made of a softer material. This is beneficial to Mavic 3 users because:
- it reduces the propeller noise during the flight, and
- they cause fewer damages to people or objects in the event of an accident.
DJI Mavic 3 Omnidirectional Sensing System:
The DJI Mavic 3 can detect obstacles in all directions with great precision. It has multiple sensing cameras with a wider range of detection. This helps the Mavic 3 respond to obstacles earlier. In a well-lit environment, the Mavic 3 can avoid obstacles quicker and smoother, capturing stable footage safely even when flying laterally or backward.
Mavic 3’s New and Improved ActiveTrack 5.0:
Regardless of the aircraft’s movement, ActiveTrack 5.0 will follow a subject precisely thanks to its embedded subject recognition technology. This is done thanks to the simultaneous usage of multiple vision sensors to recognize a subject, differentiate it from other surrounding objects, and lock the specific subject in the frame. The Mavic 3 can track in all directions and adjusts tracking angles smoothly for more natural results.
Advanced Return-to-Home (RTH) Operation:
The Mavic 3 now has a maximum sensing distance of 200 meters during RTH operations. Unlike the Mavic 2 which had 20 meters. During the flight, the Mavic 3 will create a 3D map of the surrounding environment in real-time. The drone uses this map to determine the safest, most energy-efficient flight path to return to its home point.
Transfer Data Faster with the Mavic 3 QuickTransfer Feature:
The DJI Mavic 3 has a new Wi-Fi 6 protocol. This enables faster data transmission than ever before, with download speeds reaching up to 80MB/s. In addition, the Mavic 3 automatically selects the fastest transmission mode based on the wireless environment without switching to Wi-Fi mode manually, making it easier to use.
