DJI Goggles 2 vs. DJI FPV Goggles V2

DJI recently announced the launch of the DJI Goggles 2 along with the launch of the DJI Avata FPV drone. These goggles are designed to offer a completely immersive experience, thanks to the wide, 155° FOV–which is far more than any current FPV goggles on the market. Users can enjoy superior comfort with DJI Goggles 2—they are smaller, lighter, and equipped with integrated antennas, so you can travel freely with minimal hassle. The Goggles 2 have improved two HD Micro-OLED screens to offer stunning clarity and a refresh rate of up to 100 Hz. The goggles create a smooth, full-screen live feed, allowing users to feel as though they are flying right in the cockpit. While the new FPV goggles have a very similar name to that of their predecessor, the new goggles have vastly different and improved features.

Key Differences
For starters, the DJI Goggles 2 are nearly half of the weight and size of the DJI FPV Goggles V2. The previous FPV goggles weighed approximately 420g, while the new generation weighs only 290g. The DJI Goggles 2 also come with integrated, foldable antennas, unlike the V2 goggles, which come without antennas, and must be purchased separately.

One of the major benefits of the Goggles 2 is that it has an adjustable diopter, from +2.0D to -8.0D. Users can adjust the view of their goggles to fit their vision, allowing pilots to immerse themselves in the flight experience comfortably.

Despite the Goggles 2 smaller screen size (0.49 in.) compared to that of the FPV Goggles V2 2 in. LCD screen, the Goggles 2 has a Micro-OLED, which offers a brighter, clearer image, a faster response time, and great contrast. The Goggles 2 screen is 1920×1080, offering full HD for a much sharper image than that of the 1440×810 screen of the FPV Goggles V2. The new generation of FPV Goggles have a two-hour battery life, which is about the same as the V2 FPV Goggles—they both use the same 1800 mAh battery, although many users have claimed the FPV V2 Goggles only run for about 110 minutes instead of the full 120 minutes. Unlike the FPV goggles, the DJI Goggles 2 supports Wi-Fi wireless streaming so pilots can share their flight experience with other viewers easily. 

All in all, the new generation of FPV goggles packs a great deal of upgrades in a smaller package.

Compatibility
Whenever DJI announces a new product, the main concern most drone users and current DJI drone owners have is compatibility with previous generations. Currently, the FPV Goggles V2 works well with the DJI FPV Air Unit and the DJI Avata, while the DJI Goggles 2 are not compatible with the existing DJI FPV Air unit. There have been rumors that DJI will make the Goggles 2 compatible with other drones via firmware releases, but there hasn’t been an official announcement.

Things to Note
While the Goggles 2 do have the 155° FOV, it's only available when the aspect ratio is 4:3, the video recording specification is 2.7K at 50/60fps or 1080p at 0fps/60fps; the aspect ratio is 16:9, and the video recording specification is 4K at 50/60fps, 2.7K at 50/60fps, or 1080p at 50/60fps.

The DJI Goggles 2 expected street date is October 22, 2022—in the meantime, you can take a look at all that the DJI bundles have to offer.
